Developed in the Appalachian region of America around the 1940s bluegrass music was a near relation to country music and was given its name by the band formed by Bill Monroe and named Bill Monroe & The Blue Grass Boys. Its roots were formed from a hybrid of American blues, jazz and gospel with a large dose of Celtic and Scottish folksong, jigs and reels and Irish dance tunes. Bluegrass music is meant for dancing with many opportunities for the musicians to take solo’s and really whoop it up!
