Transmission is an album by Edgar Moreau, released in 2022. Transmission includes a.o. the following tracks: “Bloch: Jewish Life B.54 I. Prayer - Andante Moderato”, “Bloch: Jewish Life B.54 Iii. Jewish Song”, “Bloch: Schelomo - Rhapsodie Hebraique B.39 - Allegro Moderat”, “Bloch: Schelomo - Rhapsodie Hebraique B.39 - Andante Moderat” and more. The album is a classical CD.
With Transmission – music by Bloch, Korngold, Bruch and Ravel – French cellist Edgar Moreau salutes his family heritage and highlights landmarks in his artistic development.
Moreau’s mother is of Polish-Jewish extraction and all five works on the album have a connection with Jewish culture. The largest of them is Bloch’s Schelomo, which Moreau describes as “a majestic meeting of concerto and symphony, rich and colourful in its orchestration and full of contrasts”. He first played the piece when he was not yet a teenager. By the time he approached Korngold’s compact, but passionate cello concerto, he was in his early twenties.
Joining him on Transmission – recently selected by BBC Radio 3 as Record of the Week – is the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra under its chief conductor Michael Sanderling. He also trained as a cellist, and his father, the distinguished conductor Kurt Sanderling, was one of the many Jewish artists who left their native Germany in the 1930s.
