After R&R guitar instro’s became hugely popular in the US and the UK in the late 50s, by 1961, Europe was awash with groups of Shadows clones. ome of these enjoyed commercial success, most didn’t; this compilation features two groups who did. Although The Phantoms originated from Cambridge, England, they became huge stars after relocating to Sweden, where they realigned as Ken Levy & Phantom; they also enjoyed popularity in neighbouring Norway and Finland. Conversely, The Jumping Jewels emanated from The Netherlands and went on to enjoy successes throughout mainland Europe, Asia and South America, as well as their native Holland. Whilst not quite as rare as unicorns’ manure, a lot of the sides on this compilation are damnably difficult to find elsewhere on CD, notably in the UK, making this something of a must-have for European Instro fans/collectors.
