Joyce DiDonato’s album EDEN is at the heart of a multi-faceted, four-year initiative that she has launched. The project, which embraces concerts, drama, education and a diversity of partnerships, focuses on our individual connection to Nature as we face a climate crisis – and a crisis of the heart. Its aim is to connect us with the natural world and to encourage us to plant seeds of hope for the future.

DiDonato describes EDEN’s musical programme as having “no boundaries – like a wild garden”. It ranges from the 17th to the 21st century, embracing such composers as Handel, Mozart, Wagner, Mahler, Ives, Copland and Oscar-winner Rachel Portman – who has written a new work specially for the album. With the period instruments of Il Pomo D’Oro and the ensemble’s Chief Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, the mezzo-soprano undertakes a vivid musical exploration.
