“Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs: Country Music”; “The Louvin Brothers: A Tribute To The Delmore Brothers”;
“The Stanley Brothers: Country Pickin’ and Singin’”, “Bill Monroe And His Blue Grass Boys: Knee Deep In
Bluegrass” and “Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper: The Big Wheel”.
Developed in the Appalachian region of America around the 1940s bluegrass music was a near relation to
country music and was given its name by the band formed by Bill Monroe and named Bill Monroe & The
Blue Grass Boys. Its roots were formed from a hybrid of American blues, jazz and gospel with a large dose
of Celtic and Scottish folksong, jigs and reels and Irish dance tunes. Bluegrass music is meant for dancing
with many opportunities for the musicians to take solo’s and really whoop it up! Acoustic fiddles and banjo’s
feature heavily in the bluegrass sound again derived from its celtic origins. Our five selections feature the
absolute pinnacle of bluegrass musicianship. The Louvin Brothers with their legendary album dedicated to
The Delmore Brothers. Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs join the party with “Country Music” while The Stanley
Brothers get to “Country Pickin’ and Singin’. And that leaves Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper to complete the
programme with “The Big Wheel”. Prepare to get dancing and whooping!
